The Bali Steel Pan is worth $1,200 (shipping included + $100 to some location)... when it is new and in tune !

Unfortunately even the ones in perfect condition are not that easy to sell these days because of all the new nitriding makers... Original price or a bit more is the max you can expect if in pristine condition.
"Second generation" means nothing of course when it comes to Bali Steel Pan...

Just exchange a few mails with Elie the seller. So last summer he met this guy from switzerland who was playing in a parc who told him it was a hang showing him the sticker inside. :x Met the guy many times during the summer . He fell in love with the instrument, did a fast research to find out that they where hard to get and saw one go for 7000$ on ebay. So he borrowed money from a friend and they both bought this pan 6.500 can $ :shock: saying that if they get tired of it, it would be an easy sell back. Now he realises that they have been scam, feels really bad about the whole thing and his also getting pressure from his friend who may not have has mutch ethical problems with this. He will probably still go ahead with his sale but will remove any mention of second gen. I suggested him to put it up for bids and see how it goes. My final argument was...honesty always pays off and if you scam someone you are no better than the one who scammed you..it's your karma not mine ...end of story ?? dont know...i sure tried..

Holes in the story... Why did this guy playing handpan in the park have a PANArt sticker in his Bali ?

1) Probably didn't play much because it sounded so bad - so he lost interest;

2) Had no IDEA what a handpan (or a hang) should sound like, so however it sounded, he thought it should sound like that.

Additional question, based on my suggested answers: Wonder what he thought music is supposed to be or whether it should be or COULD be beautiful in some way - or not! :ugeek:

Well given the fact that he had come to listen to it many times and spend $6,500 I can hardly imagine he did not find a unconscious way to persuade himself it sounded good... :D
I can hardly imagine falling in love with that sound... but love is blind (and sometimes expensive).
Maybe he more thought of selling i back ?
I don't think the guy wanted to scam anyone but I wonder if he bought it from the heart... or maybe he detuned it himself ?
Still it's on sale for $4,300...
