I chatted to DW in Scotland last Aug and he told me he was working with a uk steelpan maker developing a new handpan ... I rushed home and looked up uk steel pan makers and that's how I found panstream early doors... But it looks as though that was a complete fluke and Dan was working with someone else .... How interesting this means there may be soon 2 quality handpan makers in the uk shortly ? :)

What a tease!

I don't know if it is the recording, but higher notes sounds predominant over the lower ones.

Better watch the Orbi closely -- waiting list will surely fill up quickly.

Does anyone know if you're able to sign up for the waiting list somehow? :)

I love how many new makers are popping up everywhere. It just makes me think that sooner or later affordable, well-tuned handpans will be on the market. Cannot wait!! :!: :!: :!:

Having more pans available does not make them easier to make so prices will not go down

If supply ever gets the point that is outweighs demand prices will go down. It's simple economics, regardless I am not meaning they will be cheap, just more affordable.

If that happens, second-hand ebay prices may come down. The price that most makers ask, however, is largely based on the inherent cost of making the instrument. That can only come down if the production becomes more efficient. Any suggestions?

Hi lino,

I like your approach!!! What do you think is the step(s) in the manufacturing process that makes production inefficient?
It appears to me that sinking, scoring, nitriding etc are well in control, or better expressed, the same as steel pans and if not, then that practices of 50+yrs mature production can be followed. My understanding is that tuning is the major difference being more demanding and time consuming. You have done (and shared :+1: :+1: :+1: ) quite some work on assisting towards this direction. Do you think that tuning can be broken down to more steps and focus on efficiently performing them?
